On 1st January 2003, a work go-ahead was given to

Air Accidents Investigation Institute

The foundation of this independent authority is based upon an extensive programme of international organisations aiming to increase the safety of civil aviation, which is also one of the criteria of the Czech Republic joining the European Union. The ES requirements are stated in 94/56/ES Council Directive of 21/11/1994, which provides basic principles for investigating accidents and incidents in civil aviation.

In order to achieve the standard required by the EU, an Act no.258/2002 Sb [Sb.=Czech Republic digest of laws] came into force amending Act no.49/1997 Sb on civil aviation, and amendment and supplement of law no.455/1991 Sb on business [trade law], all in valid wording [further civil aviation law].

The Institute has been established pursuant to § 55 a) of this Act. The government of the Czech Republic by its resolution no.1006 of 14 October 2002 approved
the institute’s statutes by and
appointed  Štrůbl Pavel as managing director.
