The civil aviation covers air activities taking place in the Czech Republic and operated by civil aircraft of any nationality for civil purposes. It also includes air activities by Czech aircraft operating abroad for civil purposes, civil airport operation and providing air services on the territory of the Czech Republic. AAII´s. The AAII´s primary task in civil aviation is investigation into air accidents and serious air incidents. Other important tasks include the gathering, processing and evaluating information on occurrences in civil aviation. In addition, AAII participates in meeting requirements in civil aviation safety resulting from the Czech Republic membership in the EU, ICAO, ECAC and EUROCONTROL. It also takes part in forming safety policy of civil aviation, formulating laws and implementing legislation, and preparation of bills and regulations.
Every civil aircraft is assigned a registration mark as it is recorded in the Aircraft Register. The Aircraft Register of the Czech Republic (further on Aircraft Register) records all aircraft, except sports flying machines, whose operator is a natural person with permanent residence in the Czech Republic or legal person registered in the Czech Republic. The Aircraft Register is managed by CAA.
The sports flying machines, defined in Civil Aviation Act §81 Art.2 letters a) – g), are recorded in a separate special register for these aircraft.
The Aircraft Register records all aircraft whose operator is a natural person with permanent residence in the Czech Republic or legal person registered in the Czech Republic. The aircraft register is open to the public, anyone being entitled to consult it and ask CAA for a copy, data listing, or statement the entry has not been found.

By recording the aircraft in the register, the aircraft receives nationality of the Czech Republic. CAA assigns the aircraft a register mark and issues a recording certificate. This document certifies aircraft to aircraft ownership.
